Company History: In 1983, two years after the
IBM Personal Computer was introduced, there wasn’t any place to go to learn
how to use these new machines. Having
a background in training and hospitality systems, I taught myself the ins and
outs of the Personal Computer. My objective was to learn it and start a
business to teach others. One
year later, in 1984, PC Tutor, Ltd. was started. We established a relationship with the local
computer store. Since training wasn’t
a service they offered, they referred our training services to their
customers and in exchange, we referred back all hardware and software sales requests
to them. It was a win-win situation. Inevitably
training would be hampered when a machine wouldn’t work. Finding hardware repair was as difficult as
finding a trainer. It was therefore,
necessary to get under the hood and learn the inner workings of the
machine. In those days, fixing a
glitch by flipping a switch inside the computer was not uncommon. Once the machine was working, we could
start training. Having hardware
expertise along with the patience to teach, helped us adapt to the fast paced
changes inherent with the new technology and with the high speed in which
people were obtaining personal computers. In the
90’s, the computer store, along with many others, closed their doors. Our clients continued to depend on us to
make hardware decisions. Therefore, we
became authorized resellers of computer hardware (personal computers,
notebooks, servers, software, printers, switches, firewalls), software,
cabling, warranties, etc. As
people became more adept at using computers, less training was needed. We honed our technical skills and enhanced
our offerings to include network installation and support services. Today,
our primary business is troubleshooting, repair, network installation,
hardware, software sales, consulting, on-going support services, and yes, we
still do training. We
serve businesses that have from 1 to 50 users residing within a 100 mile
radius of New York City. We cover the
tri-state area including, Rockland, Orange and Westchester Counties, New
Jersey and Connecticut. We can also
perform services for clients that have offices outside our immediate service
area. |
